Awesome Ways to Increase your Will Power

Everyone has something they’d like to change. The desire for self-improvement and progression is innate. It is in our DNA. Unfortunately, when it comes to change, old habits are hard to break, and it seems that we fail more often than we succeed. For those things that we struggle with, it also seems that our willpower is never quite enough. What can we do about this? Are we doomed to live the same behavioral patterns of the past?  Can we actually increase our willpower, and create lasting positive changes in our lives? The answer is a resounding YES! Willpower is like a muscle and it gets stronger with regular use.

To increase your will power, you will need to train your mind and think differently. It is difficult, but it is not as boring or strenuous as you think. Here are some fun and awesome ways to increase your will power.

1. Prepare for the worst

You can increase your will power mentally by preparing for the worst outcome in anything you do. This does not mean that you should be pessimistic in all your endeavors, but you should prepare for the worst result. This will enable you to absorb all kinds of shocks that are a result of failed efforts or missed opportunities. As you are already prepared for the worst, minor setbacks won’t even affect you by a tiny bit.

2. Push yourself to go out of your comfort zone

Your comfort zone includes the things you do, people you meet and the way you behave on a daily basis. You are accustomed to these things and you feel comfortable doing them. These are your every day habits that you are familiar with. You can increase your will power for long term by doing something out of your comfort zone from time to time. For example, if you are afraid of heights, you can challenge your fear by standing on the balcony of a multi-storied building.

3. Think of all the times you achieved something despite the hurdles

Your will power will get an instant boost if you think of all the times that you have achieved something despite facing many hurdles. For example, think of the time you presented an awesome presentation to your boss despite having a terrible headache. Or, think of the time when you manage to juggle studying part time and doing a job at the same time. Thinking about things like this will make you realize how strong you actually are. Every achievement big or small, deserves to be self-acknowledged so that you can realize your own worth.

4. Identify your weak areas and work to strengthen them

To find a permanent solution to increase your will power, you can actively note down your weak areas. These are the areas of your life in which you think that you can do better. Identify your weaknesses and make a list. Address your concerns one by one and keep re-visiting that list time to time to see how you are doing.

5. Write down the disadvantages of having less will power

Sometimes it may be the case that you don’t realize that less will power is hurting you in life. Acknowledge this by writing a journal and noting down the actual disadvantages of having a low will power. Writing it down will make you realize the real effects of will power on your life and you will be motivated to address this issue sooner.

6. Do things that excite you and make you happy

Will power is a psychological feeling which increases when you feel happy and good.
